Former State Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena says indigenous medicine that could help control COVID-19 cannot be trialled at present.
Speaking to media in Kandy Former State Minister Abeywardena said several local doctors have come up with ways in which the coronavirus can be controlled through the use of indigenous medicine methods.
He however said at present, the government can only recommend the use of conventional methods to treat COVID-19 patients and stressed that indigenous medicine cannot be tested on patients.
The Former State Minister said such medicines must be considered in future and claimed it can be used globally if it succeeds during clinical trials.
Commenting on the global situation, Former State Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said the United States despite its wealth has been severely burdened by this issue.
Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena claimed that the US hadn’t created a suitable environment to face the COVID-19 pandemic successfully.
He said although the US claimed that they were prepared to take on any country and destroy the world in matter of seconds, a nation that conducted tests to land on the moon, the current White House administration was ill prepared to face the COVID-19 pandemic and save the lives of many Americans.
Former State Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said it is unacceptable for a country like the US with its wealth not to have resources to provide surgical masks for nurses on the frontline.
