Madina Foods, which owns the Caravan Fresh chain of restaurants and was found to store outdated bakery and cake ingredients amounting to 175 tons during a raid on their stores in Wattala is said to have changed the name of their establishment.
Accordingly, they have changed the name to Masterbakery Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. They had also published a newspaper notice in this regard, which is shown below.
They had changed the name of the company while the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has filed a case against Madina Foods in the Wattala Courts.
Experts point out that this has been done
for several reasons. They are that as they are unable to get out of the
case filed against them by the CAA and evade being found guilty.
Moreover, as the certification awarded to them by the CAA would be
cancelled over this issue, they would not be able to move the stocks of
imported ingredients to another location as their stores have been
sealed by the CAA.
Further, as the people are avoiding their Caravan Fresh outlets due to this incident, they intend to start the chain of restaurants under another name.
Sri Lanka Mirror learns that the current owner of Madina Foods in Sri Lanka is Mohammed Maula.
He is also a director of the Switz Lanka Pvt Ltd company which imports Happy Hen eggs to Sri Lanka.
